St. Paul, Minn.- Oct. 29, 2025 - The American Board of Imaging Informatics (ABII) is proud to announce the recipients of the 2025 Excellence in Imaging Informatics Awards. This year's honorees represent outstanding contributions across the imaging informatics profession—from individual leadership to organizational innovation and vendor excellence.

The winners are:
  • Don Dennison – Certified Imaging Informatics Professional (CIIP) category
  • Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre – Employer category
  • Sectra – Vendor category
"We're excited to honor this year's award recipients—Don Dennison, Royal Victoria Regional Health, and Sectra," says Kevin Lawrence, Director of ABII. "Their contributions continue to elevate the imaging informatics profession and inspire excellence in the field."

About the Winners

Don Dennison

Don Dennison, CIIP, FSIIM, has been named the 2025 CIIP Award Winner for his decades-long dedication to advancing imaging informatics. From his early days at Agfa Healthcare to launching his own consulting firm, Dennison has consistently championed innovation, education, and community building. His work spans the development of commercial tools, volunteer leadership with ABII and the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM), and the creation of free resources to support informaticists.

Dennison's CIIP certification, earned mid-career, validated his deep expertise and reinforced his commitment to bridging clinical needs with technical solutions. "You put in the years, try to do quality work for the right reasons, and keep grinding," Dennison said. "Then something like this comes along and reminds you that those hundreds of hours mattered."

Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre

Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) in Barrie, Ontario, is the first employer to receive the ABII Excellence in Imaging Informatics Award. Known for leadership in stroke and cancer care, RVH transformed its imaging team by embedding CIIP certification into its professional development strategy.

RVH provides financial support, mentorship, and public recognition for CIIPs, fostering a culture of excellence. The expertise of their CIIPs plays a pivotal role in cross-departmental initiatives that have a direct impact on patient outcomes. "Turnaround times are faster, imaging accuracy is up, and staff satisfaction has improved," said Damian Hitchins, PACS Manager. "It's an honor to get recognition for the ways we've invested in strengthening our team's skills."

Sectra

Sectra, a global leader in medical imaging and IT solutions, has been honored in the vendor category for its holistic approach to imaging informatics. With over 2,500 trusted sites, Sectra is known for its customer-centric innovation and support for CIIPs across departments.

Sectra actively invests in CIIP certification, offers exam prep resources, and sponsors educational events through SIIM. "From internal mentorship to industry partnerships, the company exemplifies excellence in imaging informatics," said Twana Marx, Solutions Specialist. Sectra President Isaac Zaworski added, "These certified imaging informatics professionals are driving the evolution of diagnostic healthcare, and their data-driven vision is central to our mission."
